Moldovan president, EU officials discuss European agenda

President Nicolae Timofti met Denmark's Foreign Minister Martin Lidegaard and Poland's Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna on 2 March.

The president thanked the two officials for the support offered by Denmark and Poland to the Moldovan authorities on European integration, as well as for the assistance of the two states in implementing numerous sustainable development projects in the country.

Timofti reconfirmed Moldova's commitment to follow European agenda. "The new government will continue the policy of country's modernisation by applying the EU standards in all sectors", he said.

Lidegaard and Schetyna reiterated the Western partners' support for Moldova's European integration.

The European officials welcomed investiture of a pro-European government in Chisinau, pointing out that the success of reform programme depended on the implementation of provisions of the Association Agreement with EU.

Lidegaard said the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga in May 2015 would be an important stage in strengthening the relationship between Moldova and EU.

The sides exchanged opinions about the security situation in the region, following the evolutions in Ukraine.
