Nicolae Timofti participated in a festive ceremony dedicated to celebrating 80th anniversary since the foundation of the Agrarian University

President of the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, participated today, 9 October current year, at a festive ceremony dedicated to 80th anniversary since the foundation of the Agrarian University, held at the Opera and Ballet Theatre in Chisinau.

Head of State gave a speech before professors and students attending the event, which highlighted the role played by the graduates of the Agrarian University in the process of country’s modernization. “There is a growing interest in agriculture. New technologies began to be applied; irrigation and distribution networks are being restored or built. In other words, we begin to treat with respect the earth feeding us and treat with consideration people cultivating it. However, in order to succeed in this activity we need your involvement and your contribution. You are called to have a scientific approach to this field. Tradition and innovation have to go hand in hand. We must have a quality and performance based development in agriculture”, Nicolae Timofti said.

The Head of State urged the professors and students to search in their teaching and research activity, conducted at the Agricultural University, for solutions to the agricultural issues our country is currently facing.

 “We need professionals in this field, able to face the challenges of the competitive environment we live in. Opportunities exist and will appear, once our country will becomes fully engaged in the European economic system after signing the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement”, President Timofti said.

Nicolae Timofti awarded the State Agricultural University with the “Ordinul Republicii” (Order of the Republic) as a sign of high appreciation of the special merits in the development of higher education, for contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists and for prodigious scientific methodical activity.
