President Maia Sandu praised USAID's contribution to Moldova's modernization and development

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, participated at an event on the occasion of the 30 years of activity of the US Agency for International Development in our country. In her message, the Head of State mentioned that for three decades USAID contributed to the transformation of the US - Moldova bilateral relations into a strong friendship.

Maia Sandu underlined that USAID helped the Republic of Moldova build its democratic institutions, the rule of law and develop its economy. Our country has benefited from funds for the modernization of key areas of the economy - agriculture, education, IT, light and creative industries, tourism -, for the development of the wine sector and the improvement of the business environment. Moldova received support in its fight against corruption, the justice reform and was helped to strengthen the civil society and the independent media.

The President thanked USAID for the support and solidarity, which Moldova has felt all these years and which helps us strengthen the state, the society and the economy and helps build a prosperous and secure state. "The fact that we are not alone on this road gives us more strength, courage and optimism," Maia Sandu said.

On the sidelines of the event, President Maia Sandu had a brief meeting with Erin McKee, USAID's Deputy Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia, with whom she discussed the prospects for future bilateral cooperation.
