President Maia Sandu spoke with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, met today with Pedro Sánchez, President of the government of Spain, who paid a working visit to Chisinau. It is the first visit of a Spanish head of government to our country. Officials discussed the bilateral agenda, Russia's war in Ukraine, which started 100 days ago, and the support Moldova has received in these difficult days.

"We have very good relations with Spain and we want to strengthen them - to deepen economic cooperation, to carry out projects in the field of renewable energy, fight against the effects of climate change, management of water resources and waste management," President Maia Sandu said after the meeting. The head of state praised the openness of the Spanish authorities towards the Moldovan diaspora, especially the progress on the long-awaited bilateral agreement in the field of social security. She also welcomed the willingness of the Spanish side to negotiate an Agreement on the conversion of driving licences and said that we also want to expand inter-university cooperation and the teaching of the Spanish language in Moldova.

"I thanked the Spanish authorities for supporting the European integration path of the Republic of Moldova. Our countries have many things in common, and our European aspirations are a strong potential for increasing Moldovan-Spanish cooperation", said President Sandu after the discussion with President Pedro Sánchez.
