President to discuss with representatives of International Monetary Fund in Moldova

The President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon had an online discussion with the head of the monitoring mission of the International Monetary Fund in Moldova Ruben Atoyan and the permanent representative of the IMF in our country Volodymyr Tulin. The officials discussed a wide range of issues related to Moldova's cooperation with this international financial institution.

In particular, the interlocutors discussed the most important social and economic issues in our country, completing the reform of the financial and banking sector, maintaining the independent status of the National Bank of Moldova, as well as fiscal policy, energy policy, fighting corruption, and strengthening the rule of law.

The parties also examined the prospects of developing and signing a new Cooperation Program between the Republic of Moldova and the International Monetary Fund for the coming years, worth $ 550 million. Thus, during the discussion it was specified that a meeting of the IMF Board of Directors is expected as early as this September.

Igor Dodon noted that the IMF Mission had already conducted the first online consultations with the Government and the National Bank of Moldova, and worked in this regard continues, so this day, the interlocutors agreed to hold a new round of negotiations after the end of the mission in July.
