President Nicolae Timofti received Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Moldova Namig Aliyev at the State Residence today.
President Timofti thanked Ambassador Aliyev for his contribution to developing and deepening the Moldovan-Azeri friendship ties, and welcomed the positive tendencies of the bilateral trade exchanges.
Also, the head of state stressed the role of the Azeri Diaspora in Moldova, which is an active promoter of its own culture and traditions.
At the meeting, the Azeri diplomat highlighted the common past of the two states and the artificially created conflicts in both republics following the separation from the Soviet Union.
Namig Aliyev emphasized the good Moldovan-Azeri relations and mutual support within international organizations.
