Moldovan President Maia Sandu met today with NDI (National Democratic Institute) President Derek Mitchell, accompanied by NDI Regional Director for Eurasia, Eva Busza and local NDI representatives. Discussions focused on NDI's priorities for supporting democracy and public institutions in Moldova.
President Maia Sandu thanked the NDI for its support in strengthening democratic processes in our country and noted that it remains a priority in the context of the current global challenges. The Head of State also referred to the reforms initiated by the government, stressing the importance of justice reform and the fight against corruption. As regards future cooperation, President Maia Sandu expressed her interest in: countering disinformation and propaganda, amplified by the war in Ukraine, strengthening the civil society and the continued professionalisation of the media, and developing democracy at the local level.
