The Head of State sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day

The President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu sent today a congratulatory message to the Ukrainian people on the Independence Day.

"Today Ukraine marks Independence Day. It is a day full of significance for our neighbouring and friendly country, which is now struggling to preserve its identity and right to exist. For six months, Ukraine has been fighting against the Russian invasion - and resisting. It is fighting for its right to exist as an independent state within its legitimate, internationally recognized borders. For the prosperous and peaceful future of its citizens, for the chance for its children to live in a free world," said the Head of State.

President Maia Sandu pointed out that the war waged by Russia against Ukraine has destroyed dozens of cities, made thousands of victims and driven millions of people from their homes. The Head of State, underlined that this unjust and bloody war has not broken the spirit of Ukrainians. "The spirit of a free people cannot be broken. Today we are celebrating this spirit with the Ukrainians," said Maia Sandu.

"Through its sacrifice, Ukraine is also fighting for our freedom. Moldova stands by the Ukrainians from now on, following the European path our countries have chosen. Through solidarity, we will defend our freedom and ensure our people a better future in the family of European states," noted President Maia Sandu in her congratulatory message to Ukraine.
