The Head of State met with a delegation of Spanish MPs

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, met today with the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Congress of Deputies of the Kingdom of Spain. Discussions focused on the bilateral cooperation, security risks in the region and the reform agenda. The Head of State stressed that the authorities in Chisinau took their commitments as a candidate country to the European Union seriously and are working to meet the conditions formulated by the European Commission. President Maia Sandu thanked them for the support on our European path and stressed that Moldova is counting on even greater support when Spain takes over the EU Presidency in July 2023.

The Head of State expressed her appreciation to her Spanish partners for the help in managing the refugee crisis last spring, noting that Russia's war in Ukraine has seriously affected our economic and energy situation. President Maia Sandu said that a significant number of Moldovan citizens had settled permanently in Spain or had left temporarily to work or study. The Head of State pointed out that Moldova wants much closer bilateral relations in several areas, particularly in trade and investments, including in the energy sector, as Spain obtains almost 50% of its energy from renewable sources.
