President Maia Sandu held talks in Munich with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz

The President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met today with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz, at the Munich Security Conference. Discussions focused on security challenges in the region, the very good dynamics of Moldovan-German relations and joint projects for the future.

The Head of State appreciated the support that the Republic of Moldova has received over the years from Berlin in various fields through the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. "Thanks to this aid, many communities in Moldova have modernised infrastructure, access to water and sanitation, as well as quality public services. I also mentioned the impact of German investments in our country, thanks to which thousands of jobs have been created in the regions, and the importance of helping our health system during the pandemic", stressed the President.

During the discussions, the President said that our country wants to continue and expand its cooperation with Germany, and that the Republic of Moldova is counting on German support in the process of justice reform and the fight against corruption. "We want more German investments, which will give a boost to the economy and provide income to our citizens back home in Moldova. We are also interested in joint projects that will strengthen Moldova's energy independence, including through renewable energy programmes, an area in which Germany has a lot of experience," the Head of State added during the meeting.

In turn, Chancellor Olaf Sholz assured President Maia Sandu that the Federal Republic of Germany will remain a reliable partner of our country, as it has been throughout the 30 years of diplomatic relations. The Head of State invited the Chancellor to visit our country when his agenda allows it.
