President Maia Sandu in discussion with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola: "We need support to overcome the consequences of the war and to start accession negotiations as soon as possible"

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, met today with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, who is visiting Chisinau, at a time when the support of the European Union is very important for our country.

"The European Parliament has always been on the side of Moldova’s citizens in their quest for democracy and the rule of law, against corruption", said President Maia Sandu in her speech. According to the Head of State, MEPs have been at our side when corrupt groups have captured the state, putting it at the service of oligarchic interests, and the constant support of the European legislature has been vital to keep our country on the democratic path. "It was also the first European institution to say clearly and loudly that it supports us in the process of obtaining the status of candidate country to the European Union," President Maia Sandu stressed.

President Maia Sandu thanked for all the European Parliament’s support over the years and mentioned that Moldova counts on an equally strong support in the future. "We need support to overcome the dramatic consequences of the war that Russia is waging against the neighboring and friendly state Ukraine, but also to start accession negotiations as quickly as possible", declared President Maia Sandu during her meeting with Roberta Metsola.
