President Maia Sandu at the third meeting of the Moldova Support Platform: "Thank you for your solidarity and pledges of support"

President Maia Sandu greeted, this afternoon, the participants of the third meeting of the Moldova Support Platform in Paris. "We are grateful to all the countries and organisations that have joined this initiative launched by France, Germany and Romania to help us during such difficult times for all. Thank you for your solidarity and pledges of support," the leader said at the beginning of her speech.

The Head of State underlined that Moldova is facing an unprecedented energy crisis due to Russia's war against neighbouring Ukraine. "We are not sure we can find enough resources to heat and light our homes. And even if we do find these resources, the prices are unaffordable for our people and our economy, which can endanger our peace and security," said President Maia Sandu.

The Head of State also noted that our democracy is attacked by corrupt criminal groups backed by Russia, and the country is facing a hybrid war aimed at hijacking our European integration path. "We must work together to stop these groups. That is why I have called on the EU and its member states to sanction high-level corrupt criminals who steal public funds and directly threaten the stability and democracy of our countries," Maia Sandu added.

President Maia Sandu thanked our partners and friends for their vital support and assured them that Moldova is working on the European Commission's recommendations and is preparing for the launch of EU accession negotiations. "However difficult it may be, we will go down the path of democracy and European integration," said President Maia Sandu, who also thanked President Emmanuel Macron for his commitment to strengthening Moldovan-French relations and for all his support to Moldova.
