President Maia Sandu in Vilnius: "We have built strong relations between Moldova and Lithuania over 30 years and we want to develop them in the mutual benefit of our citizens”

The President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu discussed today with the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, during a working visit to Vilnius.

They discussed the political, economic and security situation of our countries, in the context of the war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the crises we are facing. "I thanked the President for Lithuania's support in overcoming these crises and for his personal support to Moldova in obtaining the status of EU candidate country. I am glad to know that we can count on Lithuania's help and experience in the process of our country's accession to the European Union," President Maia Sandu said.

In Vilnius, the Head of State was awarded the Order of Vytautas the Great, Lithuania's highest state honour. The Order was awarded to President Maia Sandu as a token of appreciation for the good cooperation between our countries and for the enormous generosity shown by Moldova’s citizens in support of refugees from Ukraine.

"I accepted this award on behalf of all citizens of the Republic of Moldova", Mrs. Maia Sandu said. "We have built strong bilateral relations between Moldova and Lithuania over 30 years. We want to develop them further in the benefit of our countries’ citizens", Maia Sandu said at the end of the meeting.
