Nicolae Timofti met U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin

President Nicolae Timofti today met U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin.

Timofti thanked Rubin for the USA’s political support and economic assistance provided to Moldova. „In this decisive period for Moldova’s European future, we praise any signal of encouragement received from our American friends,” Timofti said.

The president also referred to the USA’s contribution to the Transnistrian conflict settlement and highlighted the need to consolidate the Moldova-USA bilateral partnership and improve the quality of the political dialogue towards a commitment that would serve the strategic interests of the two states.

For his part, Eric Rubin said that Moldova’s place was in the European and transatlantic area. „In response to Russia’s pressure on the Eastern Partnership states, we say that our vision is that of a united Europe, where democracy would reign,” Rubin said. „If these pressures do not stop, the United States is willing to provide more assistance to Moldova, including financial one, in order to help it get closer to the western area,” the official added.

Rubin welcomed the Moldovan authorities’ decision to send a group of Moldovan servicemen to Kosovo for an international peacekeeping mission.

At the end of the meeting, the officials agreed that the decision-makers of the two states’ governments work out new Moldovan-American cooperation projects, in order to foster the bilateral ties.
