Presidency of the Republic of Moldova
President Nicolae Timofti met Estonia Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus at the state residence today.
The president praised the quality of the relations between Moldova and Estonia, determined by the Tallinn-based authorities’ support for the European integration of Moldova.
President Nicolae Timofti said Estonia’s success in the period after the accession to the European Union in 2004 bespoke the benefits of EU integration and, at the same time, represented an example worth being followed for the Moldovan people.
The president welcomed the organisation of the Moldovan-Estonian forum of business people, due in Tallinn on 20 May.
Estonian Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus reiterated her country's commitment to provide the necessary assistance to the Moldovan authorities to modernise the society. To this end, the Estonian government has allocated 950,000 euros to finance projects in Moldova in the areas of e-governance, healthcare and rural development in 2015.
The sides discussed issues related to the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU and the agenda of the Eastern Partnership Summit, due in Riga 21-22 May.
The Estonian official said that, despite the difficulty of implementing reforms, changes are absolutely necessary to improve the living standards of citizens. Mrs. Keit Pentus-Rosimannus stressed the importance of the justice and local public administration reforms.
The Estonian foreign minister said that as a result of the achievements in the field of information technologies, Moldova could become an attractive destination in the IT sector in this region.
Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman and Estonian Ambassador to Moldova Sulev Kannike attended the meeting.
