President Nicolae Timofti had a meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean

President Nicolae Timofti had a meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean at the presidential residence today.

The head of state voiced satisfaction with the evolution of the bilateral relations, and thanked for the firm and disinterested support on behalf of Romania for Moldova’s European integration.

Nicolae Timofti stressed the importance of ratification of the Association Agreement with the European Union at the Vilnius Summit and the document’s signing in 2014, during the present mandate of the European Commission, as well as of the Moldovan parliament and government. The Moldovan president welcomed the European Commission’s report on a proposal to cancel the visas for the Moldovan citizens in the European Union.

Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean said the Bucharest authorities wanted to deepen the relationship with Moldova. In this respect, the Romanian side made a proposal to hold a joint meeting of the Chisinau and Bucharest governments in the first half of 2014. The official stressed the Romanian business people’s interest to participate in the privatisation of the state assets, initiated by the Moldovan cabinet.

“The starting of projects on energy interconnection between Romania and Moldova offers new prospects for developing the mutual cooperation,” Titus Corlatean underlined.

The Romanian foreign minister expressed confidence that the Moldova-European Union Association Agreement would be signed in 2014. “The progress made by the Moldovan authorities to fulfil the commitments taken within the Eastern Partnership programme will facilitate Moldova’s European integration,” the diplomat added.
