First Lady participated in the Sixth Annual World Focus on Autism

First Lady of the Republic of Moldova Margareta Timofti participated in the Sixth Annual World Focus on Autism, held in New York, USA, on 26 September current year. The event was organized within the 68th session of the UN General Assembly. Participating in the meeting were the wives of the heads of state and government from many countries of the world.

During the reunion, the first ladies shared their experience on the support of state institutions and non-governmental organizations involved in autism awareness activity.

Margareta Timofti discussed Moldova’s experience in the autism awareness area with the co-founders of the Autism Speaks international organization, Suzanne and Bob Wright, the wife of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Ban Soon-Taec, and First Lady of Serbia Dragica Nikolić.

“In 2013, an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Education and the SOS Autism association. The document envisages the sides’ mutual responsibility to develop specific educational programs, provide proper education environments that facilitate the development of children with autism, their inclusion in schools, providing assistance to staff. Also, a centre for autistic children is under restoration in Chisinau. The children and their parents will be assisted by specialists at this institution”, Margareta Timofti said.
