Head of State in Ottawa: "I thanked Prime Minister Trudeau for the Canadian government's strong support for our democratic path"

Today in Ottawa, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, greeted the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau. "We discussed how we can advance bilateral cooperation and jointly defend the values we share. I thanked Prime Minister Trudeau for the firm support of the Canadian government for our democratic path," said the head of state.

Head of state discussed with Prime Minister Trudeau how Canada can help us become stronger and more resilient in the face of challenges in our region. "We mentioned the expertise, training and assistance we need to develop our defence and national security sector. I thanked the Prime Minister for the help we received last year to better manage the refugee crisis", the President said. Canada co-chairs, together with Germany, the Working Group on the Humanitarian Situation of Refugees in our country within the framework of the Ministerial Conferences of the Platform of Support for Moldova.

Similarly, President Maia Sandu discussed how the problems of the Moldovan diaspora in Canada could be addressed and thanked the Prime Minister for his warm words about our citizens and their work in the host country.

"I have also expressed my gratitude for Canada's unconditional support for Ukraine in this brutal war; the resilience and courage of our neighbours protects us too," the President concluded.
