Cooperation with European institutions discussed by President Maia Sandu during her working visit to Paris

Moldovan President Maia Sandu met today in Paris with European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood, Olivér Várhelyi, and Deputy Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Katarína Mathernová.

In her talks with the European officials, President Maia Sandu referred to the current state of Moldova's relations with the European Union, in the context of the disastrous effects of Russia's war against Ukraine on our economy and energy security. The Head of State thanked the European Union for its important support in managing these crises and reiterated the commitment of the government in Chisinau to accelerate the process of European integration.

President Maia Sandu underlined that work is underway to fulfil the nine recommendations made by the European Commission. The reforms will: enhance the capacities of public institutions, particularly those responsible for fighting corruption, improve the justice sector and boost the economy, so that next year it will be possible to start the accession negotiations.
